Big thanks to CooledBee for adding some to the mod while I was gone, especially the dive animations for flyers that really needed them, see their version here:

The Mod
This mod dramatically changes flight mechanics to be far more satisfying on all supported flyers! No longer is flying simply a toggle switch on gravity, your mounts flight speed will change based on the forces of gravity, drag, and their own wingbeats. Above a certain speed flyers can also soar to conserve stamina, where they stop flapping and simply glide but are no longer applying extra force. What this all means is that flyers:
- Gain speed by flapping (holding the run button)
- Gain speed by aiming down
- Lose speed by aiming up
- Lose speed over time to drag
Flyers can level speed now, but it will have no direct affect on their multiplier. Instead, certain stats will affect how they fly:
- Movement Speed will increase their maximum speed and acceleration while decreasing drag
- Weight will increase how long they keep their momentum
- Stamina will increase how long flyers that use the Fuel system can use their abilities (Wyverns\\\' breath attacks, Owls\\\' freeze, etc)
Also included in the mod are an array of visual and audio effects to make flying more fun, such as wingtip trails, wind sounds, diving particles, and even dust/spray kicked up by flying over the ground/water and by your mounts wings entering the water!
How to use
First, craft an Evolver (engram is free at level 1, crafted in inventory under Consumables). Then, feed it to the flyer of your choice from the list of currently supported flyers:
- Argentavis
- Griffin
- Lymantria
- Pelagornis
- Pteranodon
- Quetzal
- Snow Owl
- Tapejara
- Tropeognathus (NEW!)
- Wyverns, Crystal Wyverns, and Voidwyrm
This will change them into their IF version, with changed physics and visuals, two new indicators of speed and altitude in the buffs area, new controls, the ability to continuously move forward without input (to a minimum speed), and the ability to not kick flyers off in water (only Pelagornis and now Pteranodon can dive, all other flyers that hit water have no choice but to swim back to shore).
How to fly!
Tap Spacebar to begin flying, and use Shift to flap and gain speed. Above a certain speed you can release shift to soar and save stamina, but you will lose speed faster. You can also press X to activate or deactivate Mouseflight, where either the flyer follows your cursor automatically, or auto-aligns to the horizon unless you hold W. If you press S you will force the flyer to tuck in its wings and dive, aiming downward but accelerating quickly.
Around the map you can now find Thermals, marked by a column of dust particles circling into the sky!
On large maps it may take a couple of minutes for them to spawn, and they will never spawn over water. After 5-20 minutes a thermal will disappear, and reappear in another location. Flyers regain stamina and climb faster while flying in them, so keep an eye out especially for your heavier flyers (such as Quetzal or Wyvern)!
Flyers also gain a melee damage buff at high speed (3x), but if you hold the attack button for 2 seconds it will force you into a dive, lowering your maneuverability and increasing this damage buff to 10x! It is much slower to turn, so the attack is easy to miss and hit a tree... but God help whoever you land this on.
When it is time to land, press and hold Spacebar and Shift together to slow down, and once your speed is low enough just touch the ground and your flyer will land. Flyers no longer land if you\'re not braking as well, so keep them held until you touch down.
